APIEM is a Data Controller. That means we’re responsible for determining what happens to the Personal Data we collect, including how we process it. As a Data Controller we’re also responsible for monitoring and approving the Data Processors we pass your Personal Data to.

What is a Data Processor?

A Data Processor carries out Processing on behalf of a Data Controller. APIEM might employ the services of another company to carry out Data Processing for us. For example, APIEM (the Data Controller) might ask another company (the Data Processor) to send you an email or letter. We’d need to give that company your contact details, so they know where to send the letter.

What do we mean by Personal Data?

The Personal Data we collect

APIEM collects your Personal Data when you contact us through email, when you complete an APIEM Membership Application Form, when you submit an article to the APIEM Journal, online through the “Contact Us form” on the APIEM websites, when you register on the APIEM Academy learning management system, when you register for an APIEM conference, through live webchats and where you interact with us on social media like Facebook and Instagram.

APIEM collects any contact information you provide like your email address, postal address, FB/Instagram name, and phone number. We may ask you how you heard about APIEM. This helps improve our marketing.  We will keep your data for analytical purposes for twenty-four months, after which your Personal Data will be erased.

Financial Transactions

When financial transactions are conducted between you and our APIEM websites, the APIEM bank accounts, or our PayPal account involving payments by credit card, debit card, checks, money orders, and/or third party online payment services, we will collect information related to the transaction as part of the course of doing business with you, including billing address, telephone number, and other information related to the transaction.

Information from APIEM website visitors and support users

We collect information from visitors to the APIEM websites including your IP address and how you interact with our websites. We also collect information such as when you visited, location data, and the type of web browser that you are using. APIEM also collects Personal Information submitted by you via any messaging or email feature available from any of our websites. For all people that email us for support or information we collect their name, email address, location, as well as any exchange with an APIEM agent. If you use our forum or community, we collect your name and any content that you post. We collect this information also when you visit the APIEM Academy learning management system which is hosted and administered by Thinkific.com. When you use the APIEM Academy learning management system you are subject to the Privacy Policy of Thinkific.

We use this information to provide and enhance our Services (including servicing your membership or account, if applicable), and to answer any questions you may have.

If you are an APIEM Academy online learning scholar, you agree to give Consent for Thinkific to use and access your Personal Information by Thinkific and other third parties when required.

The Personal Data we collect and process when you visit our website and how we monitor your activity on our website

It’s important to APIEM that we give our website visitors the best possible experience when they use our sites. We use several tools to help us monitor activity on our website. We use Consent as the Legal Basis to collect and process this data.

APIEM uses your name, address, email address and telephone number to communicate with you. We will only send you Service Messages (important messages that relate to your membership or account). We may send other messages where you have actively given Consent for us to do so. Remember, where APIEM uses your Consent to send you messages you can withdraw that Consent at any time. We may also use your telephone number to contact you about your membership or account. You may receive Services Messages as part of our Contractual obligation to manage your membership or account.

What is a Legal Basis to collect and Process Personal Data?

Under United Kingdom GDPR (the General Data Protection Regulation) there are several Legal Bases that a Data Controller can use to Process or share Personal Data.

The Legal Bases APIEM relies on to Process your Personal Data

Consent means you’ve given APIEM clear and informed permission to Process your Personal Data. Consent is a Legal Basis to Process Personal Data. An example might be where you have asked APIEM to send you promotional materials. Remember, you can withdraw your Consent at any time.

Our Contract with you

A contract is a Legal Basis to Process Personal Data. APIEM has several contractual obligations to you. These include (but aren’t limited to) informing you of important news about our services and your account.

Sometimes APIEM has a Legitimate Interest to Process your Personal Data. We try our best to comply with such requests but will continue to store archived copies of your Personal Information for legitimate business purposes and to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations. What we don’t do with your Personal Information

APIEM is an operating subsidiary of the United Kingdom Event Industry Academy Ltd. APIEM works with merchants and users around the world. Accordingly, APIEM may transmit your personal information outside of the country, state, or province in which you are located. Irrespective of where you live you have certain rights with respect to your personal data, including the right to request access to, correct, amend, delete, or limit the use of your Personal Data. Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a username and password for access to certain parts of an APIEM website, you are responsible for keeping the username and password confidential.
